Reggie was born here in Texas and grew up In Orangefield where he graduated high school.
He comes from a family of musicians; his dad, uncle, and a cousin were all jazz musicians. As a composer and arranger, he has toured and recorded at schools in southeast Texas and helped run his dad’s recording studio back in the late 90s.
Reggie has a Masters in Music Education degree from McNeese State University in Lake Charles, Louisiana. From 2005-2020 he worked as assistant band director and then head band director at Barbe High School and SJ Welsh Middle School, also in Lake Charles.
In 2020 he began scoring music for films, which he says has been a childhood dream of his. One of the films he worked on made it to 2021 Cannes Film Festival in France.
Most recently, before joining the BHS team, he worked for Lamar State College in Port Arthur in both traditional and commercial music classes.
Reggie says that what he likes most about working for BHS is that the students, faculty, and administration have been super helpful, kind, and compassionate in helping him learn how to serve our bands. He says that there is an exceptional amount of talent here at BHS and that he truly loves our band rehearsals. “We are moving major mountains together!” he said.
His goal as the new BHS band director is to build the band’s numbers. He says there are many good musicians here and he wants to increase the band’s numbers. He wants to continue to grow our band program and is also “very passionate to continue fostering the love of music and its artistic expression”.
A message that he would like to get out to parents is “We are working on a Spring Concert and will be sending out a date asap! We have many performing and training opportunities that can continue the music education of our students! Our jazz band and Mariachi have been working on both some exciting upcoming performances, including a production with the theater program!”
